Step 1: Get the Latest Version of Java

The first step, you need to get the latest Java Version. To get it, you can open Window Control. Then, find Java under the program, click Update Now. After that, open a command prompt, enter the Java version. In this case, you can check your Java version. Then, if your Java is outdated, you surely have to download it.

Step 2: Select the Location for Minecraft Server Files

Once you update your Java, it is time to choose location for server files. The file will create a new configuration files when you run it first. Then, you can put the folder on your Document, Library and many more.

Step 3: Download and Start Minecraft Server

To get the server, you can download it at https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/server.

  • Then, downloaded files will come as Java .jar files. Save it on location as you’ve selected.
  • After that, double-click the .jar files. Then, it will be modified before the server is ready to use.
  • Then, accept the EULA. Change eula=false to eula=true in text editor.
  • You can see a pop up that says  “Can’t save server properties”, it means error.
  • Once you get the warning, you can run the Minecraft server as an administrator by right-clicking the .jar files. Choose “Run as administrator”.

Step 4: Activate Port Forwarding on Your Router

However, this step refers to your router to find the specific instruction. You will need to forward TCP Port 25565 for Minecraft. You have to enter your server’s local IP address as Output IP or Server IP for the forwarded port. To get your server’s local IP, you are able to open a command prompt and enter ipconfig.

Step 5: Start the Minecraft Server

To start the server, you need to open the Windows command prompt.

  • Start the server with the following command: java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar {server file name} nogui replace to java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar {server file name}.
  • Then, you can also create a .bat file to batch the command together.
  • Then, if your server is working, you definitely can invite the other players to connect to your server through your local IP address or external IP address.
