How to Make a Target Block in Minecraft

A target is a block which provides a temporary redstone charge once hit by a projectile. Also, it is preferentially targeted by redstone dust, creating it a common circuitry component. This block can only be crafted. It means that you cannot be found it naturally.

In Minecraft, the target block is a new type of block that was introduced in the Nether Update. This block allows you test your aiming skills by using projectiles such as snowballs, tridents, eggs, and more. Now, Let us explore how to make a target block in Minecraft.


A target block in Minecraft is available in the versions below:

  • Java Edition: Windows, Mac & Linux PC’s.
  • Bedrock Edition: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, iOS, Android, Fire OS, Windows 10 PC’s.
  • PlayStation Edition: PS4.


These are the materials that you need to use to craft a target block in Minecraft:

  • 4 redstone dust
  • 1 hay bale


  • Open the Crafting Menu.

Firstly, you need to open your crafting table so that you have the 3×3 crafting grid.

  • Add Items to make a Target Block.

In the crafting menu, you are going to see a crafting area which is made up of a 3×3 crafting grid. To make a target block, you have to place 4 redstone dust and 1 hay bale in the 3×3 crafting grid. Once you are making a target block, it is important that the redstone dust and hay bale are placed in the exact pattern. In the first row, there will be 1 redstone dust in the second box. While in the second row, there must be 1 redstone dust in the first box, 1 hay bale in the second box, and 1 redstone dust in the third box. In the third row, there must be 1 redstone dust in the second box. This is the crafting recipe for a target block. Now, you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, the target block is going to appear in the box to the right.

  • Move the Target Block to Inventory.

After you have crafted a target block, you will need to move the new item to your inventory. Congratulations, you have made a target block in Minecraft succesfully.
