When you do maintenance on a server or Minecraft files on your home computer, you will have to find the relevant folders and understand the structure of them. This page will consist of the guide that will tell you the way to find the mods folder location as well as locating the other Minecraft folder and files.
There are a few ways to locate the Minecraft mods folder. on Windows, you can do Start/Run/%appdata%, or type %appdata% into the location field of the Windows Explorer and then open Minecraft. On Mac, you can click on the desktop, press Command+Shift+G, type ~/Library and press enter, and then open Application Support and open Minecraft. On Linux, in the terminal window, please type xdg-open ~.minecraft or if you prefer working at the commandline, cd ~/.minecraft. Inside the folder, you should be able to see the folder named mods. In case you do not see it, make sure you have installed Minecraft Forge already and started Minecraft once again.
If you want to locate the modded launchers, the method is different depending on the type of launcher you are using. The first step that you have to do for any modded launcher is to start it and allow the main screen open.
Twitch or Curses Launcher:
- Click on Mods.
- Click on Minecraft.
- Right click one of the Minecraft profiles.
- Click Open Folder.
Technic Launcher
- Click on Modpack.
- Click the gear next to Modpack Options.
- Click Open that is located next to the field showing your file path for Minecraft.
ATLauncher
- Click Instances.
- Click Open Folder on your selected Pack.
FTB Launcher
- Choose the pack that you want to open the folder for.
- Click Edit Mod Pack.
- Click Open Folder on the lefthand side.
If you want to locate your Minecraft folder of files, the most recommended method is using the resource pack folder. In order to do so, the first thing that you have to do is to start Minecraft. Then, click Options from the main menu in game. The next thing that you have to do is to click on Resource Packs. After that, click on Open Resource Pack Folder to open the file explorer. The last thing that you have to do is to navigate up one level into the parent directory in the window that opens to find the main Minecraft folder.
The second way is using the file explorer of your computer. Please take note that these steps will only work for Minecraft Java Edition installations. If you use Windows file explorer, you can start the search window from your desktop start menu. Then, type %appdata% into the search and press Enter. After that, click on the .minecraft folder. If you use a Mac finder, you can open Finder on your Mac. Then, navigate to the home directory of your user. Next, click on Library. After that, click on Application Support. The last one is to click on Minecraft. For Linux’s users, you can open the home directory of your user. Then, click on the .minecraft folder.
